Death to a lifetime of work (happy ending)

So, I had a spot of hard drive troubles the other day, and had to jump through a series of hoops to repair the damage. Tonight, I sit down to do some digital art, and find that my entire art folder is missing!

My log says I was experiancing ntfs errors, and eventually crashed on me. I'm told this is basicly some form of HDD failure. I did some chkdsk stuff, and now I seem to be ok... yaknow, minus all my artwork being *OBLITTERATED!*

I gotta figure out how to do data recovery, and see if I can salvage anything. I havn't backed anything up since I got the new computer. So, basicly 5 or so months of work is totally toast. I still have the older stuff, which is of some comfort... but you know, the newer stuff was important too.

I was working on some fan comic stuff, and there was the contests and... dammit. X(

Oh, no one snagged the screenshot of the 8000th visitor. So winners there. Better luck next run.

[EDIT!] So the next morning I did some file recovery action, and TADA, I got my art back.

For you computer users, it pays to have at least two physical hard drives (no, partitians don't count). Having three saved my tush.

Oh cheap!! That freaking sucks!! I have my crap on 4 redundant drives just in case. I have had good luck with RT-Tools in the past, but I havent had to do it in years since I'm so obsessed with 4 drives now. Lol. Still, its worth looking them up... If you are short on cash, try looking on SourceForge.org for some freeware programs. Those tend to be a little on the hardcore nerd/hacker kind of calibur...........but hey, free is free.

that sucks.

you know you could always copy your deviaitons and paste them back on your hard drive, you just won't be able to strip down your digitally made works for editting.

Well, unfortunately, DA's standard format of choice for devs is jpg. This means a resolution of 72 px a square inch, and limited color scheme. My devs, while are usually black and white, are never less than 150 px a square inch. So they are higher quality, and also, I can come back to them and peice them apart for later. In short, having a reduced quality image that I can't edit bits of is a small consulation to lossing months work.

Thankfully, File Recovery saved my ass.
